Hallo folks! So yesterday was the last day to order a commission from me for the rest of the year...I'm off to school soon so shall be away from most of my materials and be very busy, so the store, convention and ordering aspect of Practically Geeky will be closed until next year. However, I hope to still be partly open here by starting up a new project!
I've noticed recently there are MANY guides out there for newcomers on how to prep up for selling at a Convention for the first time, but most I've read seem to lack a few big things....firstly and mainly, WHAT to do while your AT your table! Prep info is helpful, but most of these guide seem to skip though or only quickly run though good tips on what to expect while AT your table! Also, most guides are written from old pros at these things; people who have been on the con scene for years! While this can be helpful I find many of them forget to address some odd things that a newcomer might not know or realize. Finally, most of these guide focus on an artist perspective, not a crafters (which I am :0)!
So, I'm hoping to write up a series of a 'How to prepare and work a convention' guides, focused on (but not limited to!) crafters concerns. I've only been doing this a year and remember many of the things that troubled me before my first shows >_>... and I've see newbies wonder about at shows I've recently been to! I also want to make an aim of not only making the experience fun but hopefully profitable too! Most guides tell you not to expect profits from your first con, but while it may be hard, I don't think it's an impossibility! From working cons where I've not even made my table back, to ones where I've made almost $600 (funnily enough, at the first con I did! See?), I have experience from both sides of the spectrum I'd say .
However, before I start, I wanted to ask if anyone had specific questions they want me to bring up in the guides? If they're extremely specific, I'll probably reply to your comment personally, but if I can address it in a guide too, all the better!
If you've had ANY questions about working an Artist Alley at a convention, here's the place to ask! I hope to write up these guide in the next few weeks before school really picks up, so keep an eye out for em!
